Research and Professional Development

• NM AMP: New Mexico Access for Minority Participation. Engages students through paid research with a faculty mentor, as well as  professional development opportunities. Available to all students majoring in science, technology, engineering and/or math. • NM INBRE: New Mexico Idea Network for Biomedical Research Excellence. Engage in biomedical, health, and community-based research through paid summer internships. Open to all students. Internships and Work Opportunities

• Conservation Corps New Mexico. Paid public-service positions in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texis. Open to students ages 16-25.  https://corpsnm.org/programs, click on current openings. Contact Dr. Whiteman to learn more.
• Conservation Legacy. Paid public-service positions available in New Mexico and elsewhere in the US.  Positions strengthen communities through service and conservation. • The National Park Service, Gila Cliff Dwellings. Offers unpaid internships and volunteer opportunities. On-site housing and a uniform are provided. Contact Dr. Whiteman to learn more. whitemank@wnmu.edu
• NM Department of Game and Fish. Unpaid opportunity to work at the Fish Hatchery in Glenwood, NM.
• NM Energy Minerals and Natural Resource Division, State Forestry.  Various paid internship opportunities open to all students. Contact Dr. Whiteman to learn more. whitemank@wnmu.edu

• NM State Parks. Unpaid opportunities at 35 different parks in New Mexico. Gain professional experience working with the public, assisting with park maintenance, visitor surveys and more. For more information, contact Dr. Whiteman.
• US Forest Service. Some paid internship opportunities in forestry, engineering, range, business, and more, particularly in the summer months. Volunteering and job shadowing opportunities are available in a variety of disciplines including biological sciences and cultural resource management.  Contact Dr. Whiteman to learn more.
• Veterans Fire Corps. This core program is open to veterans ages 21-37. Benefits include transportable certifications, living stipend, education award, protective gear, and more. https://corpsnm.org/veterans-fire-corps
• Volunteer Center of Grant County. This program, managed by The Commons Center for Food Security and Sustainability in Silver City, is an online platform that connects volunteers to organizations in Grant County.
